Our good friend Art put on a party yesterday. Even though we were dead tired from getting ready for the fair, we dragged ourselves over there and had a great time.
His house is totally encrusted with intense artwork, but he cleared out a whole room, down to the white walls, for 5 or 6 artists (including Krista) to hang their work. It was lovely.

There was live music, a fire pit, cozy places to sit. Even a queen size bed with quilts on it. An art show. Lots of good food. And plenty of friendly creative folks to meet. Way cool.

To help India raise money for camp, we made t-shirts for her to sell at the Oregon Country Fair. The learning curve was pretty steep but not too bad.

Getting Ready for the Fair
Seems like every year, for the last five anyway, we get up to the Oregon Country Fair exhausted! It's so much work. Every year we think of ways to streamline it all and plan ahead, but then we add new stock and end up frantically making stuff to sell up to the night before.
Well, it is the night before. We're supposed to leave tomorrow at the crack of dawn and we're once again exhausted. And we're still not really ready. I mean, the van is 95% packed, but there's still laundry to fold, and clothes to pack. Ugh.
So, we've decided to show up a day late! Rested. And refreshed (as much as one can be after a 9 hour drive). We'll just take tomorrow 'off' and clean the house a bit, put a little more energy into our 'costumes' for the fair and just sit around panting.
If all goes well we'll be there by 3pm Wednesday. Instead of 5 pm Tuesday.
Yesterday we were busy silkscreening the girl's designs onto various t-shirts we got from the Salvation Army. Most of them came out pretty good. I can imagine them being popular. I hope so. We also did a huge sticker project for both girls. India has 14 and Eden 11. Some of them in color. We've been running our new color laser nonstop for days and days.
We also printed up about $400 worth of our new Yes Notes. They look fantastic. I'm hoping people buy them. They were an awful lot of work to make!
And Krista ordered a gazillion photo prints which I ended up bagging up this morning. They represent many of her favorite paintings that never made it into print form.
An absurd amount of stuff. A ridiculous amount of work.
I swore we'd have it all done yesterday and today we'd just kick back. Oh well.

New Yorker
Our trip to Manhattan was great. But we've had to jump right into preparing for the Oregon Country Fair! So sorry, I should've told you some New York stories!
Aside from the airport, we spent all our time in Manhattan, mostly around Greenwich Village. We got to stay in a lovely apartment on the 15th floor, right on Washington Park, and visit with my aunt and uncle, cousin Sandy and her son Wilder--though not all at the same time.
The licensing show was mind bending. We were such a little drop in that bucket! And we really won't know how it went until August or September, according to our rep. It takes time for the companies to go over all their contacts and make decisions. With any luck we'll land a few good contracts. Wait and see...
We really enjoyed visiting the big city and you can see most of our photos over on flickr. I actually wrote notes on some of them. But in a nutshell...Aunt Marian made us breakfast and showed us how to navigate the tranist system. She got us to the right subway terminal to zip up to our show, and then headed home to Connecticut! After attending the licensing show, we came back to the apartment, met up with Sandy and Wilder and went out for an incredible vegan meal, wonderful desserts at a dark little cafe and a walk around the teeming village.
The next day Sandy guided us up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and we spent many hours there. Krista and I walked back down Fifth Avenue and through Central Park (a very long walk!) and had a nice romantic dinner at a hole in the wall gourmet Italian place.
Uncle Carr came in late from winning a backgammon tournament at his college (?!) and we had breakfast with him the next morning. Then we walked with Sandy, Wilder and their friends from Cape Cod on up to Chelsea to see some real New York art galleries. Oh my god! It's just like in the movies.
Then we subwayed back to the village, had a wonderful lunch and caught a taxi back to JFK and home.
Sorry, this isn't the best narrative. Just go see the photos! Krista and I each have our own set.

Off We Go (into the wild blue yonder again)
On monday Krista and I take to the friendly skies again for a short visit to New York City and the LIMA licensing show. We worked like dogs for about a month getting new, more licensey artwork done and the display boards put together. Our new rep will have them up in her booth and we'll be wandering the (many) aisles to see what the show is all about.
Thanks to my Aunt Marian and Uncle Carr we'll have a really nice place to stay in Greenwich Village! Alas, we'll have only two full days there and one of those will be taken up with the big show. We're also planning to visit the Met. Otherwise we'll wander.
This is our first time being away from the girls. I mean, both of us being away. It's bloody well about time. Thanks to the Krista's folks we've got the chance.

The Harmony Festival
This weekend we had a booth at the Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa. It was really fun. The event has really matured and developed in the last few years and it was the best ever.
We had a booth in the Goddess Temple area and were able to test out some of our newest offering, like Krista's Yes Notes (which were very well received!) and the sarongs.
On Saturday night we got to go dancing at the Techno Tribal Dance, but actually found a nicer scene and ended up dancing til 2am! We're still very tired.

Zephyr the Slider
I was watching Zephyr to give Jon and Lux (and India) a break during Coco and Jeff's wedding reception. All he wanted to do was climb this tall slide, over and over and over. At one point India came runnig out saying "no no! he needs someone to go up and slide down with him! Jon says so!!" Well by that time he'd gone by himself about twelve times. So I thanked her for her concern and said to forget it. Much later Jon came running out, looking distressed and gave me the same story. By this time Zephyr had gone down about fifty times! I pointed out that the soft springy turf around the slide would probably prevent a fatal injury. Anyhow. I thought this video was pretty cool.

A Wedding!
On sunday we travelled up to Mendocino for Coco and Jeff's wedding. Most of the celebrants had been staying up there for three days worth of festivities! It was my first full on Jewish wedding and I was really impressed with all the beautiful traditions--culminating in the couple being hoisted aloft on chairs and danced around.
The ceremony itself was outdoors on the beautiful Mendocino Headlands and it was one of those mostly overcast and very cool days on the ocean. Me and the girls came away with sunburned faces!
During the reception, the klezmer band began playing an old Andrew's Sisters song that had been featured in my swing dance class with India. Sure enough, India came and grabbed me and we danced like crazy. Fun.
It was a beautiful wedding. The kind that feels true and real.
