Check out my Photos on Flickr!

I've been spending some time lately getting my flickr account organized. It contains pretty much all the photos I've ever posted on this blog and a number of others. I've got them organized into sets (thailand, oregon country fair, friends and family, etc.) and I'm planning on adding quite a few more that probably won't show up here. So, if you like my photos, try the link and maybe bookmark it.
cheers

Happy Birthday Jerry

Happy Birthday Jerry, originally uploaded by Robbi Baba.

Jerry has been admiring Krista's resonator guitar for months. Every time he came over he'd pick it up and play something awesome and say "I gotta get me one of these". So Joyce splurged and got him one for his birthday. He makes it sound great!

My Cousins

A lovely visit, originally uploaded by Robbi Baba.

Sandy and Marcia came to stay with us after their 20 day bike trek down from Seattle. Sandy lives in Boston and Marcia in Philadelphia (I hadn't seen her since Sandy's wedding twelve years ago!).
It was a lovely visit, despite the incredible stress we've been under. I wish they could've stayed another day.

Tap dance lessons in Hell's Kitchen

What a stress fest we've enjoyed this last week. India developed an excruciating earache and had a very painful orthodontic treatment (in part because she could hardly open her mouth from the ear infection). We came home from that and Eden was clutching her cheek crying. By some miracle we got her in to see (our new) dentist that day and discovered she had an abscesed tooth which needed to be extracted. Then my cousins Marcia and Sandy, from Back East, called to see if they could come stay the night. And Krista was having an on-going panic attack over the New York Show deadline, which had just been moved up four days.
We had two doctor visits for India, two orthodontic appointments, two dental visits for Eden (including the extraction) and two runs to the pharmacy for meds. I somehow managed to clean the house and make soup for my cousins. It stopped raining and Krista had a few good days in the studio. It almost seems we're out from under it.
The visit with my cousins was delightful--they had just spent 20 days bicycling from Seattle down to Crescent City, Californa and had many stories to tell. The title of this entry, by the way, comes from a story Sandy told of dance lessons in some scary part of New York City when she was little.
So.
We've still got two birthdays, a wedding, and a major craft fair ahead before we start packing for New York. Not to mention actually finishing the displays for the booth in New York. I'm trying to get Krista to finish this one last illustration of a girl on a bike with a puppy in the bike basket. It's so cute.
Today I was trying to clean out the new hot tub in our back yard. The water had turned kind of green. Uck. I did all the (non-toxic) treatments and the water still looked a bit colorful. Damn. I gave up and put the cover back on and dicovered my hand was dyed bright green from touching the top of the cover! It's pollen from the olive tree!! Okay.

Here are some more photos from Ethan's birthday party last saturday. I got to meet Lee's mom and grandma (Ethan's great grandma) who is 93 years old and from New Orleans.
I like taking birthday party photos. There are so many standard rituals with young and eager participants. It's helpful that Donna and Lee have such a pretty backyard and such goodlooking friends.

face painting

face painting, originally uploaded by Robbi Baba.

India brought her gear to Ethan's birthday party and set up shop. She had quite a line! I think she did a great job and felt really proud of her (especially when I later found out she was suffering from a bad earache the whole time!).

This saturday was Santa Rosa's Rose Parade. The theme this year--woodstock. So we were treated to a general hippy ambiance. Along with Charles Shulz's critters.

Eden's Cake

Eden's Cake, originally uploaded by Robbi Baba.

This afternoon we had a party for Eden. It was a beautiful afternoon too. I took lots and lots of photos, but very few of the candid shots came out well. I seemed to be catching people taking bites of food, or with their eyes half closed. Or just looking tired. I think most people are tired these days. But we still had a really nice time.
There was a treasure hunt with rhyming clues and goodie bags at the end. The final clue read: I'm the last clue so listen up good. I'm big and I'm brown and I'm made out of wood. A pirate once owned me, ye wee scury skunk. The swag is inside me. I'm the Treasure Trunk.
India and I spent way too long on the clues. But the kids really got into it! Sweet.

Elegant Snacks

Krista's handiwork. It looked so good I had to take a picture. The organic red bell pepper cost about $5.00! and I almost didn't buy it. I'm glad I did. It was yummy. Danny came through with the jicama.

These guys had some sort of game happening. They invited me in for a spell and had some sort of coherant plot, but I couldn't figure it out. Which didn't matter one whit to them.

For Eden's birthday I set up a little rope swing in the old olive tree out back. And there's our new hot tub--our neighbor gave it to us free! India helped me roll it over, across the street. So far we're using it a lot. It's looking to be a nice summer.

Fortuitous Tooth Loss

Fortuitous Tooth Loss, originally uploaded by Robbi Baba.

Eden has had this loose tooth for days, and when she woke up on her birthday it was laying next to her. Is that a good omen or what?

I have to admit, I'm a little sad to see the end of seven. It was a really good year.

India in her element

Eden wanted sushi for her birthday and afterwards we went to Screamin' Mimi's, the local hip ice cream place. Krista and Joyce got free sundaes because it was mother's day!

On saturday I took the girls out to join our friends 'the tumbleweeds' who were camping along the russian river. Aside from a deep regret that I hadn't gotten it together to camp with them, we had a really good time. What a great bunch of people.

We had a very long volleyball game, with many players and lots of little kids. We laughed so hard. By the time India took this photo the little ones had all wandered off.

Off we go again...

I just purchased tickets for Krista and I to fly to New York City in June! We're really going, thanks to Jerry and Joyce, and Jon and Loopy and Meredith who are all offering to keep the girls happy.
This will be the first time we've ever both left Eden. And I think we've only left India once, for one night. It's a big deal.
We're going to the Licensing International show. Krista's work is represented in the show by our new rep, Alicia. But we wanted to check it out in person, and my Aunt Marian and Uncle Carr have offered to put us up in their apartment.
Krista has been working very hard on the show and is producing some fine new gray hair, when she's not tearing it out in handfuls. Ah, the creative process. It's brutal.
I'm hoping we get to bum around the big city a bit, see some museums and all that. We only have two full days! Ack.
In other news, Eden is still riding her bike. We just got back from the library. She's also begun stilt walking, using India's stilts.
I've got India reading juvenile biographies, as part of her homeschooling. She just finished Charles M Shulz, one of our local heroes.
And I finally got around to installing our solar powered clothes dryer in the backyard. Not everyone agrees, I know, but I love the feel of sun baked laundry! I spent about $7 for the clothes line and some hooks and rings to hand the line up with. With the price of natural gas so high, I'll have saved that much by the end of the week.
love

Aja joined us for the day. I pulled her in the bike trailer while Eden and India rode along side. We were almost a little parade unto ourselves.

Sugarloaf

Sugarloaf, originally uploaded by Robbi Baba.

Saturday the girls and I went hiking with Danny, Karen and Zoe and Donna, Lee, Paisley and Ethan. It was Donna's plan and she couldn't have picked a nicer day.
Sugarloaf State Park is usually dry and hot by now. After all the rains we were met with wildflowers and running streams and a thousand shades of green.
A good time was had by all and the only thing missing was Krista, who was slaving away in her studio.
